The most important piece of safety gear is your very own brain. Pay attention to everything going on around you. Vehicles behind and next to you as well as in front, watch the body language of the cars and anticipate where they will go next, watch the side roads, pedestrians, stray animals running beside the road, everything. Try to avoid ever going squidding with your head - if you are too tired, sick or distracted, then you might not see that critical moment that lets you react in time to save your life.

Recommended General Safety Gear

• Full Face Helmet
• Motorcycle Riding Jacket
• Riding Gloves
• Kevlar-lined Jeans
• Leather or Racing Boots

Why a full faced helmet?

• rocks get flicked up from the vehicles around you
• insects, such as bees, can strike you in the face and you don't want to be getting stung whilst moving at 70km/h
• impact zones from crashes

Leather is best if you can afford it and there are many companies in Perth and online that provide motorcycle specific clothing with armoured padding for your shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees built in.
